Mythos BassHorn ReloadedFor us as loudspeaker designers, the development of a bass horn is one of the greatest technological challenges. As Harry F. Olson, the audio pioneer par excellence, warned: 'The design of a horn loudspeaker is usually a long and tedious task.'
We created a legend over 20 years ago with our Avantgarde BassHorn - a horn-loaded bass system that eclipsed everything that had come before in its radical nature, and finally catapulted the Trio System into iconic status. Since 2001 we have installed a considerable number of these BassHorn systems all over the world, and over time a profound archive of experience and expertise has been created. We felt it was time to take the next step and perfect the idea.

XB12. Radical Horn. Radical Drive.We developed a completely new driver for the SpaceHorn. The XB12 is probably the most powerful driver ever developed for a large horn-loaded bass system. Compared to the driver in the BassHorn we increased the voice coil from 100 mm to 153 mm - with this huge 6 inch motor structure we achieve absolute peak values for force factor and power handling, while reducing thermal compression.
The magnetic structure is built around two high-grade magnets magnetised in the largest 200,000 volt facility in Europe, producing 1.15 Tesla flux density over a 480 mm voice coil circumference. The diaphragm is a composite of long-fibre paper and carbon fibre, and our AirGate acoustic filter technology between the driver and the horn mouth delivers an additional 6 dB reduction in distortion compared to its predecessor.

Bass Amplifier. Power in All Situations.The SpaceHorn is powered by an integrated bass amplifier. The active modules combine a digital crossover with powerful Class D power amplifiers. Each bass driver is driven by a separate 500 watt power amplifier, which can provide sufficient power even with complex EQ settings, and a 12 volt switching input enables the subwoofer to be switched on remotely.
The entire electronics are protected by a state-of-the-art E-Fuse circuit - much faster and safer than conventional fuses, and ideal in terms of sound. The cabling for power and signal is integrated in a concealed cable duct, so the cables are fed invisibly to the rear of the SpaceHorn and cannot interfere with the harmonious lines.
