Reference MC: Nagra’s First CartridgeThe Reference MC is Nagra’s first-ever phono cartridge, developed over several years of R&D in parallel with the Nagra Reference Anniversary turntable and tonearm system rather than as a standalone accessory project.

It is offered in two impedance versions: 6 Ohm, outputting 0.45mV @ 5cm/s, and 4 Ohm, outputting 0.30mV @ 5cm/s - both specified with channel balance under 0.5dB and crosstalk better than 30dB.
Reference MC: Double-Layer Silver CoilAt the heart of the cartridge is a multi-layer transducer built around a double-layer coil body wound with hyper-pure silver windings, a construction chosen to extract detail from the coil itself rather than relying solely on magnet strength.

Compliance is rated at 12 μm/mN and total weight at 14.3g, figures a turntable’s tonearm and counterweight need to be matched against before fitting the cartridge.
Reference MC: Ruby Cantilever, Titanium StructureThe cantilever is a stiff ruby rod mated to a high-strength titanium structure, with a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating applied to the assembly for additional stiffness and wear resistance.

The stylus tip is a Swiss-made Fritz Gyger S profile, a fine-line contour shape chosen for tracing detail out of a record groove with minimal added distortion.
Reference MC: Continuous-Pin ConnectorsThe cartridge’s connector pins are machined as continuous single pieces rather than assembled from separate parts, a detail chosen specifically to lower inductance at the connection point.

As Nagra’s first cartridge, the Reference MC carries the engineering standard of the Reference Anniversary turntable system down to the one component that touches the record itself.
